Argyll and Bute Council requested a twilight session on Lasadh.co.uk to support Gaelic teachers CPD. Lasadh is a collection of resources for Gaelic Medium Education primary teachers operated by Stòrlann.
There is a currently a shortage of Gaelic inset training and given the dispersed geographical spread of schools within the authority, they approached Storlann to run a 45 min session using video conferencing. Stòrlann delivered the training using facilities at e-Sgoil and at 2 of their own remote offices. 6 GM teachers joined the webinar from 5 locations in Argyll and they were given background information and suggestions on how to use some of the resources. There was an opportunity to ask questions and the format was deemed a success by all participants.
One participant commented that whilst the Vscene videoconferencing system was available for all GM teachers in Argyll, this session showed how useful this product would be for all teachers. It also highlighted the importance of updating of browsers and various tasks on school networks.
It was a cost effective session with regards to travel and accommodation savings. It allowed for specific CPD within the school day without impacting on teachers' time.
