Number of Sessions:
Once per term
100 pupils from multiple schools
This interdisciplinary session introduces the wider concept of enterprise and entrepreneurship and how the associated skills and traits can be applied in learning, life and work. Pupils will learn about an enterprising mindset, question stereotypes and participate in a short quiz to determine where their entrepreneurial strengths lie as they explore the possibilities of enterprise and entrepreneurship as a future pathway.
Entrepreneurship and enterprise are widely thought to be a major driver for economic growth, job creation and wider community development – three things that are essential for Scotland to flourish as a nation.
Young people need to be prepared for a world that is changing rapidly. Many of the jobs they will do when they leave school do not yet exist and they will probably have several jobs during their lifetime. They need to have the skills and attitudes to cope with an unpredictable future, to be able to deal with setbacks and disappointments in a positive way, and to continue to learn for the rest of their lives. This is where Enterprise in Education can play a part.
SES definition of Enterprise in Education: "Combining creative ideas and innovative practice across the curriculum to equip young people with a range of skills they can apply to their learning, life and work".
Pupils will require individual access to internet site www.menti.com via laptop, PC, tablet or mobile phone in order to participate in the session. Please check that our test quiz https://www.menti.com/r3nmw5svqs is available to pupils by logging in on a device as a pupil via the school network before signing up to participate in this activity.
Due to time restraints, the quiz used during the session is a summarised version of YE Scotland's 'My Enterprise Profile' and as such, will provide a very basic overview of each pupil's strengths in this area. Our aim is to raise awareness of the mindset of an entrepreneur and inspire pupils to consider entrepreneurship as a possible future pathway. We will share the link to the 'My Enterprise Profile' at the end of the session to allow pupils to complete this afterwards, which will provide a more detailed reflection opportunity for pupils and highlight possible next steps to consider.
