Course description and aims:
Over 60% of employers are now using online profiles and social media as a form of second CV. Your online profile is the picture you build of yourself for the world to view, but what information do you want your potential employer to know? This session will highlight the dos and don’ts of building your online profile – your ‘brand’, offering the opportunity to understand what good looks like and what is not so good. Following a 14 minute video from a leading PR firm learners will be asked to engage in group discussion and reflect on scenarios of whether they would ‘hire’ individuals based on their online profile. Pupils will be asked to create a short action plan of what they may change on their profiles and create some firm steps to building their online brand.
Tha còrr air 60% de luchd-fastaidh a-nis a’ cleachdadh ar n-ìomhaighean air-loidhne agus ar meadhanan sòisealta mar sheòrsa den dàrna CV. ’S e do phròifil air-loidhne dealbh dhiot a thogas tu gus sealltainn don t-saoghal cò th' annad. Ach dè a tha thu ag iarraidh a shealltainn?
Bidh an seisean seo a' soilleireachadh na rudan math is dona a tha ann a bhith a’ togail do phròifil air-loidhne - do ‘bhrand’, a ’toirt cothrom tuigse fhaighinn air cò ris a tha coltas math agus dè nach eil cho math.
Às deidh bhidio bho chompanaidh PR thèid iarraidh air luchd-ionnsachaidh a dhol an sàs ann an deasbad buidhne gus beachdan a thoirt seachdad air pròifilean air-loidhne eadar-dhealaichte. Thèid iarraidh air na sgoilearan plana gnìomh a chruthachadh a’ coimhead air na dh’fhaodadh iad atharrachadh air na pròifilean aca fhèin gus am brannd air-loidhne aca a thogail.

This course will provide short 15-20 minutes taster sessions of what CivTech will be able to offer learners as part of the DYW Live 21-22 Academic Year programme.
CivTech® is the Scottish Government’s award-winning innovative challenge programme. Its mission is to drive daring and innovation in the public sector, by collaboratively solving challenges that make people’s lives better. The programme harnesses entrepreneurial tech innovation and citizen engagement to improve public services and create economic development opportunities.
CivTech have been running challenges since 2015 and we are currently working on our CivTech 6.0 challenges due to go live next month. These challenges aim to bring together public sector companies and innovators to solve real-life problems. Some of these solutions would need to be specific and immediate, while others are invitations to re-invent how things are done. All of the solutions provided would need to have one thing in common: they would need to be future-facing.

Course description and aims:
This course is now full and is unable to accept new participants.
Over the course of 8 weeks, pupils will use IT to engage in a range of small group activities within their own class to create a product or service designed to have a positive impact on the lives of someone in their immediate, local or global community. They will create their own company identity and brand; consider how they market their product and consider cost implications associated with this.
Our facilitator will ask groups to share their work on camera in order to check for understanding, generate discussion with higher order questioning and provide real-time feedback.
In week 7’s Pitch Showcase, pupils will present their ideas in a final 2-min presentation to our judging panel.
The final week will involve self-reflection of skills and qualities used throughout, along with feedback and awards provided by judging panel.

Teachers are required to log in to the MS Teams call and be able to use camera and mic (these can be muted/switched off when not interacting). Our facilitator will set live tasks and provide time limits via the teacher’s login on the MS Teams call. This should be shown on the screen to pupils (audio also required). Pupils will require the use of a PC/laptop throughout to facilitate collaboration and sharing of work between members of the same group and between groups and facilitator.
Pupils and teachers should be familiar with the use of MS Teams and Class Notebook as this is where all resources will be provided, and evidence stored. Groups should comprise approx. 4-6 pupils. Teachers will be required to support groups in the room and monitor timekeeping so that pupils are ready to listen to their next task/feedback. Our facilitator will provide live feedback to groups if they can speak on the teacher’s camera and share their evidence – teacher facilitation of this required.
We will host an MS Teams Teacher Information Session on Monday 26th April 2021 16:00 – 17:00 to share the resource and answer any further questions for teachers who subscribe.

Would you be interested in a Virtual Visit from Dell Technologies to your school this year? Digital Futures is a free program provided by Dell to inform students about careers in technology and engineering.
Scotland’s technology sector is growing one and half times faster than the overall economy. 69,000 jobs in digital tech were advertised in Edinburgh and Glasgow alone during 2019, making the tech sector one of the biggest employers. With further growth predicted, our aim is to help students in Scotland take the first step towards thinking about a career in technology.
How can we help? We at Dell have developed a short program called “Digital Futures” that is designed to get students thinking about careers in Technology and Engineering. We are passionate about empowering students with this knowledge and will deliver the session virtually. These sessions are completely free with all materials provided. All we need from you is a classroom filled with students.
What is the program about? Two representatives will facilitate an educational and interactive discussion with your school about the different careers in the Technology sector, with the aim of helping your students think about the many technology career options available to them – from general IT to Mobile, to Gaming and e-commerce, including diverse careers within leading IT companies. Students will have the opportunity to discuss, ask questions and understand what life is like as a technology professional.

The Climate Ready Classrooms (CRC) course is aimed at participants who wish to educate themselves on climate change, with a view to taking resultant climate action, and who then wish to pass on this knowledge and understanding to others (e.g. educators to pupils, or senior phase pupils to younger students). It is designed to inform participants enough on climate change in order to teach it and explores what we can do as a society, as individuals, and as groups to take said climate action.
This course consists of 4 units, completed over 4 weeks, covering: 1. Climate Conversations 2. Exploring the Climate Change Evidence 3. Taking Climate Action: Rebalancing 4. Taking Climate Action: Impacts
On one day every week, there will be a live Q&A and information session, giving participants the opportunity to put forward questions and observations about the course. These sessions usually last around 30 minutes and are be delivered through Microsoft Teams within Glow. At the end, participants will submit an evidence form which will be sent to The Carbon Literacy Project, the body which accredits this course. If certified, participants will then receive a certificate which recognises them as 'carbon literate', and participants can then reteach the course.
