The programme is designed to encourage creative thinking among the young people and identify where modern day products could become dated in the near future. In teams, pupils will 'reinvent' a well-known product and will present their ideas back to their classmates.

The programme will enable the pupils to build upon their enterprising skills in a product development context. Students will gain an understanding of the world of business and have the opportunity to create a company, create a business plan and advertise their product or service with its own logo and tagline.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop an enterprising mindset.
  • Build enterprising skills including teamwork, problem solving and communication for learning, life and work.
  • Increase resilience and confidence.
  • Work collaboratively towards a common goal.
  • Recognise the importance of scientific discovery and invention and the impact these have made on society.
  • Investigate how product design and development have been influenced by changing lifestyles and technologies.

DYW Context:
Building enterprising skills including teamwork, problem solving and communication is crucial for learning, life and work. Learners will not only gain an understanding of the world of business, they will also practise and develop those meta skills for the future. These skills are critical to every learner, irrespective of which pathway they take.

Additional Requirements:
1 device required per group (for online research); art materials required; junk and craft supplies required to build prototypes.

Other Info:
There will be 4 live sessions delivered online by our staff. Follow-up work will be provided and should be covered by class teachers. In addition, there will be 4 supplementary teacher 'drop-in' sessions arranged to suit for a chance to ask questions and familiarise selves with the resource.
