This course will provide a unique opportunity for young people to access virtual work experience with leading Food & Drink companies including Baxters, Coca Cola, Inverhouse Distilleries and Mackies. You will learn about their brands, new product development, sustainability, marketing and exporting, and the sessions will include challenges set by the employer which participants will be invited to respond to. At the end of each term, there will be a Dragons Den style opportunity by each participant to these leading employers. Aimed originally at delivery of the Foundation Apprenticeship in Food & Drink Technologies, this will be open to anyone interested in being involved in work experience with leading manufacturers, whether they have a direct interest in the Food & Drink industry or not.

These sessions have so far been supported by the following leading employers: Baxters, Brown Bros, Coca Cola, Dawnfresh, Highland Spring, Inver House Distilleries, Mackies Crisps, MacPhie of Glenbervie, Walkers Shortbread. More will be added throughout the year.

Breakdown of the four sessions:
Each employer has committed to four sessions each, two at the start of each month and two at the end, plus two end of term sessions.

The format typically for each session will be:

  1. Company overview, its main products from concept to development, range of skills within the company
  2. Manufacturers Q&A session – direct questions to the leading employer
  3. Manufacturers’ challenge - run through of key drivers, product ideas followed by challenge set
  4. Students' challenge responses - selection presented directly to the employer
  5. and 6. Term end: Dragons Den pitch opportunity to employers

These sessions will run on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.
