DYW Live Certificated Courses increase equity by allowing learners to study subjects or to access other types of certificated courses, which are not available at their local school. Courses are delivered online via remote lectures.  They function in a similar way to sending learners to a local college to complete courses, except that the learner remains in school.

Description:
We are excited to be able to offer this course, provided by New College Lanarkshire (NCL) via DYW Live, which is delivered directly to learners in school using MS Teams via Glow.

If you register an interest for this course on behalf of a learner(s), you will be invited to an MS Teams meeting to discuss both the requirements and the logistics of the course delivery with our NCL partners.

DYW Live certificated courses do not require a teacher to be present and participate in each lesson, rather learners are added to an online Team to enable them to join each session remotely.

The time for delivery will be agreed on a first come first served basis with additional learners (up to capacity) welcome to also join if the timings work for them.

This course offers a gentle introduction to the theories and ideas put forward by the great thinkers in psychology. It is an ideal introductory unit for people interested in why we behave the way we do. You will study theories as well as methods of research and you will look at specific examples of classic research carried out by famous psychologists.

Criminology will focus on Crime Scenes and consider both the physical and psychological evidence to be found there. The course involves identifying physical evidence at the crime scene and then following the protocols for its collection. Psychological evidence concerns any evidence which help understand the crime scene.

Requirements for the learner:

  • The learner is required to enrol in the college. Learners will be sent a link to complete their enrolment.
  • Psychology Unit is offered at SCQF level 4 and Criminology at SCQF level 5
  • Each learner requires access to an individual device with a working webcam and microphone to enable their full participation with the online class.
  • Each learner requires a quiet, distraction free location where they can participate in the class lessons.
  • The learner needs to have a positive attitude towards learning online and be willing to actively engage in the remote delivery.
  • The learner would require at least a Nat 4 in one of the following subjects: English/History/Modern Studies/ RMPS

Requirements for the school:

  • It is strongly recommended learners complete their enrolment with the responsible teacher present in the room, to support any difficulties they may have.
  • Each school must identify a key teacher contact for their learner(s), who will be added to the Class Team. This is to provide them with an oversight of the learner(s) progress and to facilitate any in-school support which may be required.
  • Ensure that learners are provided with a suitable place to carry out the assessments. Assessments for this course involve 3-4 pieces of open book coursework. One for each of the Learning Outcomes of the course.
