DYW Live Certificated Courses increase equity by allowing learners to study subjects or to access other types of certificated courses, which are not available at their local school. Courses are delivered online via remote lectures.  They function in a similar way to sending learners to a local college to complete courses, except that the learner remains in school.

Description:
We are delighted to be able to offer this college course, provided by New College Lanarkshire (NCL), via DYW Live, delivered directly to learners in schools via Teams Glow.

If you register an interest for this course, on behalf of a learner/multiple learners, you will be invited to an MS Teams meeting to discuss the logistics of the course delivery with our NCL partners.

DYW Live certificated courses do not require a teacher to be present and participate in each lesson, rather learners are added to an online Team to enable them to participate in each session remotely.

The time of the delivery of the course will be agreed on a first come first served basis. Additional learners (within capacity) are welcome join later, if the timings work for them. 

Requirements for the learner:

• The learner is required to enrol in the college. Learners will be sent a link to complete their enrolment.
• This course has the same tariff value as a Higher (SCQF 6) course and so requires six periods per week available in their timetable over the course of a year.
• Each learner requires access to an individual device with a working webcam and microphone to enable their full participation with the online class.
• Digital Business Decision Making requires the learner’s device to have Power BI for desktop installed – this is a free app but may need approved by your school/LA IT admin/department. 
• Each learner requires a quiet, distraction free location where they can participate in the class lessons.
• The learner needs to have a positive attitude towards learning online and be willing to actively engage in the remote delivery.
• At least a Nat 5 in one or more of: Business Management/English/Modern Studies/History/Admin & IT/Computing Science.

Requirements for the school:

• It is strongly recommended learners complete their enrolment with the responsible teacher present in the room to support any difficulties they may have.
• Each school must identify a key teacher contact for their learner(s), who will be added to the Class Team This is to provide them with an oversight of the learner(s) progress and to facilitate any in-school support which may be required.
• For completion of the SQA course assessments, a suitable location will need to be identified to enable students to complete these. In addition, an invigilator/teacher will be required to be present while assessments/exams are carried out. There will also be remote invigilation from the college for certain assessments.

You will also learn the technical skills needed to pass the Microsoft Certification exams. 

On successful completion students will gain 4 highly valued international gold standard Microsoft Certifications in addition to an SCQF Level 6 award. 

DYW Context:
The speed at which the world is changing makes it difficult to predict exactly the skills workers will require in the next five to ten years, let alone over the span of their professional life. What is certain though, is that the list of capabilities demanded by employers is growing – particularly when it comes to the level of digital expertise expected of graduates joining the workforce. 

In the past, leaving university or college with a good qualification in their chosen subject was enough to put many students on the path to career success. Now this is just the beginning. No matter what the job or sector, employers increasingly expect graduates to arrive equipped with the digital capabilities necessary to thrive in the modern working environment and there is an expectation that they have a sound working knowledge how data is driving decisions throughout the business.

That’s why Scottish curriculum is integrating world leading Microsoft’s globally recognised certifications into an exciting new qualification: The Digital Business Decision Making – to give Scotland’s students the head start they need to excel. 

Additional Requirements:
Webcam, broadband connection and computer required. For certification exams, a local invigilator would be required (though we would formally invigilate remotely)
