DYW Live Certificated Courses increase equity by allowing learners to study subjects or, to access other types of certificated courses, which are not available at their local school. Courses are delivered online via remote lectures.  They function in a similar way to sending learners to a local college to complete courses, except that the learner remains in school.

Description:
We are very pleased to be able to offer this course provided by New College Lanarkshire (NCL) via DYW Live and delivered directly to learners in schools via Teams Glow.

By registering for this course, the responsible teacher will be added to a Team to allow the participation in a discussion of both the logistics and specific requirements for the course with our NCL partners.

For S4 -S6 learners the responsible teacher does not need to participate in the lesson. The learners are added to the online Team and will be invited to directly to join in the sessions.

(For S1-S3 learners this can be run as a shorter course, but a responsible teacher must be present to ensure the class runs smoothly)

The SQA unit Creating Media Content is included in the course, click here for more info.

The course is a fun and interactive introduction to podcasting designed specifically for school children. In this course, learners will embark on an exciting journey to discover the world of podcasting, exploring various aspects of audio storytelling, production, and hosting. Through a combination of hands-on activities, group discussions, and creative exercises, participants will gain practical skills and knowledge to create their own podcasts.

Aims

  1. Foster Creativity
  2. Enhance Communication Skills
  3. Promote Digital Literacy
  4. Encourage Collaboration
  5. Boost Confidence and Presentation Skills
  6. Cultivate Critical Thinking
  7. Promote Empathy and Empowerment

The course aims to inspire and empower school children to become confident storytellers and creators in the world of podcasting. By providing them with the necessary tools, skills, and knowledge, this course will unleash their imagination, foster collaboration, and ignite a passion for audio storytelling.

Following completion of the podcasting course, there will be further content on Creative Industries. More information TBC.

Requirements for the learner:

  • The learner will need to enrol in the college. All participating learners will be sent a link to complete this.
  • Introduction to podcasting requires the learner to have two periods available in their timetable to commit for the length of the course.
  • They will require an individual computer device to work on for the sessions. This device must have a working webcam, the learner should also have a headset with built in microphone to enable them to fully engage with each lesson.
  • The learner would require a suitable quiet and distraction free location, where they can participate in the on-line lessons.
  • The user must have a positive attitude towards learning and active engagement by means of remote delivery.

Requirements for the school:

  • A teacher key contact for the learners needs to be identified. They will be added to the Team so they have oversight of the learner(s)’s progress. The responsible teacher will be kept informed of their progress to enable them to facilitate any in-school support which may be required.
  • Invigilation by a teacher in the classroom will be required while assessments/exams are occurring.
  • It is strongly recommended learners complete their enrolment with the responsible teacher present in the room to support any difficulties they might encounter.
