Green Careers Week 2026
The rapid expansion of the 'green job' sector is creating more employment opportunities, making specific skills valuable for new entrants looking to successfully break into the field. Join us for a series of 5 short sessions, aimed at learners in P6 - S2, that highlight some of the key skills required to work in nature conservation. We'll be speaking to a range of different people working on nature based projects across Scotland, covering surveying, mapping, people skills, practical skills and identification skills. These sessions highlight the wide range of indoor and outdoor opportunities in nature conservation.

| Surveying Skills | Monday 2nd November | 11:00 - 11:30 | Understand all about carrying out surveys using a range of different methods. Hear from Butterfly Conservation, NatureScot, Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland and the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative as they demonstrate the different survey skills required. |
| Map-Reading Skills | Tuesday 3rd November | 11:00 - 11:30 | Learn about how developing map-reading skills can identify areas, habitats and species that might need protecting. Speakers from NatureScot, Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and Saving Scotlands Red Squirrels will share how important this skill is. |
| Identification Skills | Wednesday 4th November | 11:00 - 11:30 | How do we know what we are looking at? The skills of being able to identify plants and animals is very important and Buglife, NatureScot and the British Trust for Ornithology are going to tell you more! |
| People Skills | Thursday 5th November | 11:00 - 11:30 | What skills do we need to help up speak up for nature? We are going to be speaking to a range of people to help us understand how we can develop skills like active listening and persuasion. We will be talking with Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, NatureScot and learning about how Royal Society for the Protection of Birds help people to access the outdoors responsibly. |
| Practical Outdoor Skills | Friday 6th November | 11:00 - 11:30 | What do we mean when we talk about practical outdoors skills? Lets here from different working around Scotland who are helping to protect the landscape around them We are going to learn about tree-planting, pollinators and bird boxes. |
