e-Sgoil is working with the Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools to offer a 24-week Introduction to Mandarin language and culture to secondary school learners across Scotland.

The course will start w/c 28th October and will be taught via live lessons, delivered on MS Teams on Glow. There will be one 45-minute lesson per week, with options for whole classes to join during the school day, or for individual learners to join after school.

Learners will develop speaking skills starting with greetings, colours and numbers, moving onto phrases around food and drink, weather, family, animals etc.

They will learn how to write some simple Chinese characters.

They will also learn about Chinese culture, including how Chinese New Year and other traditional festivals are celebrated.

• Term 2 (8 weeks)
• Term 3 (9 weeks)
• Term 4 (7 weeks)

On-timetable

The course can be taught during the school day to a whole class, at a time to suit your school. The following options are available:

Monday – Thursdays, either AM or PM

After school (Individual learners)

There is also an opportunity for individual learners to join classes from their own devices after school, on either Mondays or Tuesdays at 4pm.

When you have completed the sign-up form, you will automatically be added to the MS Team which will be used to deliver the course.

Each cohort/time slot will have its own channel in the Mandarin Team - you can join the lesson from the channel for your cohort.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
